Roland Baron

Roland Baron is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in the Endocrine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor and Chair of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, in Boston, USA.
He also is Guest Professor at the Paris 7 Medical School, INSERM Unit 606, Hôpital Lariboisière, Paris France.

Roland was elected as President-elect at the 2007 ECTS Annual General Meeting in Copenhagen. He took up office as President at the 2008 Annual General Meeting in Barcelona on 28 May 2008.

“I am extremely honored to have been first selected by the Board of ECTS and then elected by the ECTS members to this very important position. After great leaders such as my predecessors Professors Stuart Ralston and Richard Eastell, it is a very challenging role to assume. I am firmly committed to maintain the Society on the excellent course that Stuart and Richard have set and to do my best to continue to build and expand ECTS' premier role in expanding basic and clinical science in Europe in the bone field."

The key issues for the Society that we will be focusing on are:

  1. the quality of future meetings, coupled with a totally transparent meetings policy;
  2. expanding the grant and fellowship programs to allow young students and scientists a successful training and early career in calcified tissue clinical and basic research
  3. developing closer links with other European societies with similar objectives to foster funding and policies that would benefit patients, doctors and scientists.
