Meet the Professor Sessions

Stuart Ralston and Garry Milne (Edinburgh, Scotland)

A web based database for audit of biologic therapy for osteoporosis

Topics to be covered

  • The ECTS in collaboration with the clinical trials unit at Edinburgh University has designed a web based database which can be used to store data from patients with osteoporosis undergoing treatment with biologic agents. The database provides the facility to store relevant clinical and biochemical data as well as record adverse events, changes in treatment and new fractures. Participants will have the opportunity to see the database in action and to enter and retrieve “dummy” patient data.

Educational goals

After attending this Meet the Professor session, participants will be expected to:

  • be familiar with operation of the ECTS web based biologics database
  • be able to enter and edit data on the website
  • be able to download data

Target audience

  • Clinicians involved in the treatment of osteoporotic patients

Teaching methods

  • Demonstration of the database in action
  • “Hands on” session to practice entry and retrieval of data
