Bone and bone marrow hematopoiesis

Topics to be covered

  • The location of the hematopoietic stem cells within the bone marrow
  • The role of osteoblasts and osteoclasts in the hematopoietic stem cell niche
  • Spatial differences in niche regulation of hematopoietic stem cells between different sites of bone marrow hematopoiesis
  • Therapeutic targets for hematopoietic stem cell based therapies

Educational goals

After attending this Meet the Professor session, participants will be expected to:

  • understand the key determinants defining the stem cells niche
  • understand the relationship between bone or bone remodelling and bone marrow hematopoiesis
  • define the key mechanisms involved in hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal
  • identify potential therapeutic targets within the hematopoietic stem cell niche

Target audience

  • Graduate students and post-doctoral research fellows interested in hematopoietic stem cell research

Teaching methods
