The 7th European Union Framework Programme is the main research funding programme of the EU. ECTS EU Grant Options provides an overview of funding opportunities within the FP7 programme, of particular interest for researchers in the bone field. FP7 is organised into four main areas:

Cooperation – collaborative research
People – research training and mobility
Ideas – basic research, through the new European Research Council
Capacities – research infrastructures, SME specific measures, international cooperation, regions, policy development

OVERVIEW OF TYPES OF PROJECT

Collaborative projects –these can be small, medium or large-sized projects for undertaking of research, conducted by international consortiums of partners
Coordination Action – networks for coordination of ongoing research, dissemination of results etc
Support Action – smaller projects to assist in the future planning of European research funding policy, impact studies and stimulation of participation (e.g. in new member states and among SMEs)

COST programme

The COST programme, separate from but complementary to the FP7 programme, funds networks of European scientists (“COST actions”) focusing on specific topics. Funding is available for coordination/networking activities such as conferences, exchanges and publications. The call is continuously open. The next cut off date is 30 March 2012.
